Nature Reserve

We visited the local nature reserve today. It is set on an old coffee plantation. Because the coffee here requires shade, this land was never clear cut. Over time a lot of the natural vegetation has filled in around the coffee plants. It was really beautiful.

The nature around here is very interesting -- many things are similar to Canada because of the high altitude here (like pine trees, deer, same vegetables grown), but there are elements of the tropical thrown in (like palm trees, banana trees, and many tropical plants). Only two hours drive from here and the climate is fully tropical with coconut palms, pineapple plants, and mango trees.
