Jungle Gym

Playgrounds in Canada are increasingly more "sanitized" and "safety-proofed". You can't even build wooden playgrounds any more, because of splinter concerns.

We wonder when they will ban tree-climbing in our risk-proof culture back home, and how much of "life" we miss by never taking chances.

Whatever your "limb" is, we hope you go out on it today.

Dave and Danaya and Zane,
Really enjoying your photos and the blog. So good to see all the kids having fun and be truly engaged, and the smiles on those girls' faces-priceless!
Wish I was there with you!

Hi Dave:

Our home backs up to a woods and you never see kids there. It is either tick season or mosquito season or winter when it is toooooo cold! Perhaps we program kids so that they have little time to play in the woods. On the other hand, my friends and I spent much time in the woods and jumping from rock to rock in the creek that was down the street from my home. I wonder how we managed to live with mosquitos, ticks and all those scary people who are supposed to be lurking in the woods. And, yes, we did climb trees and walk across the creek on fallen trees. We also tried to float in an old cement mixing tub, but guess what? It sank with us in it, and we did get wet. We did all this when my best friend was not allowed to go down to the creek/woods. I wonder where her mother thought we were.
