The abuelos (grandmas) were making hundreds of tamalitos (miniature tamales) for the fiesta. The celebration was for the 27th anniversary of the opening of the little Assemblies of God church in Tierra Linda.
It was quite an experience to stand in the kitchen area, walls made of lamina, eyes stinging from the smoke of the fires, making jokes with the grandmas, taking pictures, showing them pictures, watching them laugh like they´ve never seen a picture on a digital camera before, telling them about the medical clinic this week, and experiencing their joy at the novelty of talking with gringos in their kitchen.
