My hockey team (back home), the Renegades, won the 12-team league championship last night. My brother-in-law is the goalie, so with a new baby girl on Friday and a championship on Saturday, he's had a good weekend.
I called in to his brother Tim, who relayed play-by-play from the stands via cellphone, so I was able to follow the last seven minutes. It's strange to not be there with a team that I helped start, but I was thrilled for the guys.
We hope that when we return to Canada, we never forget that when we're organizing teams, helping with births, inviting people for dinner, welcoming newcomers to town, or just listening to an immigrant, we are doing important things - equally as important as we are doing here, just different. Here's hoping that your day today is filled with excellent little differences that you make.
