Self-Diagnosis

After both being completely horizontal and out-of-action yesterday, Danaya and I have been researching and self-diagnosing this morning. We're feeling better, but still weak.

Our best guess so far is that we contracted some form of salmonella. We think that it may have come from either our peanut butter (natural, local), or from our eggs. Eggs are sold here unrefrigerated, and may carry the bacteria. We've decided that we're going to refrigerate both our peanut butter and our eggs, and that we're going to pre-wash our eggs with our disinfectant fruit wash.

As a lifelong Canadian, I have eaten thousands of eggs, and never even wondered if they were contaminated with something. The next time I'm annoyed at some government over-oversight program, perhaps I'll remember how safe we have it in so many ways (honest police, safe roads, no bars on our windows, clean eggs, etc.).

You can read more about salmonella here and here.

I don't know if you know this... but my egg "allergy" only happened after I went to Guatemala! I often wondered if it had something to do with eating too many eggs or something like that while I was there. And well, the symptoms well... you know what they were! I saw a really great doctor in Antigua though who gave me some meds that they don't sell in Canada or the US and boy, did that get me better quick!
