Life School

Danaya is standing with George, the director of Life School (www.lifeschoolweb.com) here in Pana. We went for a tour and conversation this morning. It's an incredible school, which offers local kids the opportunity to earn an international-quality education, delivered in English. Many of the kids are Mayan, and many are on scholarships, sponsored by people in the US. The teachers are a dedicated crew (mostly from the US), working very hard for far less than a Canadian teaching wage.
It's very difficult to keep something like this going here, and we are amazed at its local reputation for solid-education-on-a-shoestring-budget. What they deliver with minimal dollars is astounding. Abel's children attend here, which is how we learned about it.
The rainy season is now in full swing here, so we've been without power since this afternoon, with rain pouring outside right now. I'm posting this with the TIGO mobile modem, hanging it out the door in the rain to get a bit of signal. Good times!

Good ol' rainy season! Aren't the thunder & lightning storms there crazy? It's alike a theatre show.
