We read Cinderella, Peter Pan, The Ugly Duckling, Little Red Riding Hood, Bambi, Three Little Pigs, Reptiles, The Little Mermaid, and many more - for ninety minutes straight, all in Spanish. Every time we finished, they handed me another.
You should have heard them laugh when the wolf says to Little Red Riding Hood, "The better to eat you with"!
There are many days of hard, plodding work by many people that have preceded this moment; those who dreamed of a community centre, those who gave the funds, those who dug the dirt and laid the block, those who built the shelves and donated for the books. We hope that a picture can help you feel the emotion of a moment, and make it not so far away.
Tierra Linda is a place without books in the schools or books in the homes. There are more books on these shelves than in all the rest of the village. We hope this is just the beginning.
