Tortillas are purchased at any number of "tortillerias". We aren't picky where we buy them, so today's tortillas were from somebody's back room on the street we happened to be on. Their chimney was broken, and they were working in a cloud of smoke. Tortillas are 5 for 1 quetzal, which is about 4 cents each.
My first tortilla-buying experience was early on here, and I didn't know how much they cost. I figured 20 quetzales' worth should be fine. Well, the looks I got from the tortilla-makers - because who has 100 fresh tortillas on hand! I realized my mistake when I reached the third tortilleria, and politely ordered a very safe "5 quetzales, por favor".
The signs for "Tortillas - Los Tres Tiempos" are everywhere. It means they make them fresh three times each day.

Your making my mouth water! I make mine at home here in the States but they don't really compare to tortillas over a wood stove and with fresh masa!

That is so funny...can't imagine buying Q20.00 worth. When I first came to Guatemala almost 13 years ago, you could get 9 tortillas for Q1.00. Times have changed...now the people here complain that they are expensive. :)
