Yuri and I taught at a private school for years and there was no library or anywhere close to the school that kids could get ahold of books to read. So, we asked for a donation, and got about 2000 books donated to the school, but then the problem was that the kids would sign out the books and then would NEVER bring them back....it was all too new and too exciting. Sadly, the teachers also took the books and never returned them. :( So then the "library" got shut down.
And to answer your question, I know a lot of people who can't read, but none of them are North Americans.
