Ganamos 6-3! (We Won 6-3)

After being down 3-1, our soccer team stormed back to a 6-3 victory this afternoon in Panajachel league action. Despite a weak ankle and rumbling intestines, I thoroughly enjoyed playing. Abel's daughter Melanie is wearing her dad's jersey.

Today's field, close to the river, was all grass five years ago. Hurricane Stan dumped three feet of mud and debris on it, and the grass has never grown back. As you can imagine, if the municipality can't rebuild the sewer plant, the soccer field is down the list of priorities. The finesse passing amidst the dust, rocks, and clouds of dust is amazing. And of course, when the ball goes out the sideline, it's down into the river, and is retrieved by small boys.

There are many other non-photographed moments this week in our lives: the street "vendor" whose only words of English are "need weed?", buying range eggs from the farm with Abel, all three of us being under the weather - still, taking grapefruit seed and oil of oregano simultaneously, killing a gigantic centipede, the moths in our room, etc.

For you veterans of Conexions trips, a boy came up to me in the market to say hello. His name is Alvaro, and he is the son of Carlos and Juanita, whose house we helped build here. He is doing well, and sells CD's on Calle Santander.

It takes us longer and longer to do things in the market, as we run into more people we know and converse with. That's a privilege.
