Today we were reviewing our English numbers, and a bunch of the girls sat down all around me. It was great, because they are often on the outside since the boys are more aggressive and get to everything first and in front of them. The boys lost interest in the English, but the girls stayed around.
I had them all practicing word cards and actually talking out loud, which is a stretch since they are very shy and not very confident. I had some really special moments with a few of them today. I started to ask them what words they would like to learn, what kind of work their parents do, etc. They gave me all sorts of words, and began teaching me some Spanish.
All of their parents either collect fire wood or farm vegetables such as onions, green beans, carrots, chard, cilantro, and potatoes. It was fun to get to know them a little more, and it gave me some ideas for new words to teach them.

Danaya, it is so cool, the connections you are making with these young girls. Who knows where it all leads? Love seeing you sitting there crosslegged, a young mom, sharing her life - and words - with people you care about.
best,
Melody
The girls do need some special attention. Sorry I can't write more, I have a kid on each leg and they are fighting.
This is such a precious picture! :) I can only imagine the conversations and expressions that must have passed - so great!
