No, this is the original spider picture, but we had an identical one on our bedroom floor this morning. We discovered it, freshly deceased, shortly after Zane came into our room. Either he stepped on it, or he power-smacked it, which he does to ants.
Since it's our second large spider, we thought we'd try to find out about it online. We've had no luck, but if you find out, we've got a little reward prize for you.
Dave picked it up on one of Zane's flashcards, and showed it to Don Miguel, our gardener. He said they are poisonous, but not fatal. Your leg just swells up for a couple of months. He said they only crawl on walls and floors, but Danaya is skeptical.

I am so glad I didn't see any of those critters when I was there. That is one ugly spider and I hope you will spray bug killer around before going to sleep. YIKES!!!!!!!!!
This is when I wish I had a great macro lens...
If you keep showing pictures like this you will lose one avid reader of your blog; that thing is disgusting! Kudos to Zane for killing it though. I would have been jumping up on th bed screaming for Jeff!
Looks like possibly a Cupiennius salei. Or at least a relative. The pictures online show all kinds of variations, but this guy definitely looks cool.
