We stopped by Dr. Juan Pablo's clinic to talk with him about our April team, and he showed us his ultrasound machine. The "wand" that they use to do ultrasounds for pregnancies is cracked, so he's getting poor photos, and it's ready to die altogether at any time. It's $30,000 to replace it through the Guatemalan distributor (a monopoly). If anyone has any brilliant ideas, we'd appreciate your thoughts. He says they are exponentially cheaper in Canada and the States.
Dr. Juan Pablo is an excellent physician who could be practicing anywhere, but he has a heart for people without resources. So he has a small clinic here in Panajachel, and helps many indigenous people from outlying communities.

Right... You just happened to be touring a pregnancy clinic... is this an announcement???
Ha ha. No, he's just a good friend of our teams. He does a lot of low-cost help for local indigenous people, and with his skills, he could be practicing anywhere and making big money. But he chooses to be here, making a difference. We love being able to pitch in and help him out when possible.
I don't know if this would help or not but could you check with Equipping the Saints?? I know they send down medical supplies for really cheap prices. I have never personally used them, but I do know a group I use to belong to has!!
