The organized chaos of the market is energizing and tiring, all at the same time. We are still learning how to buy good avocadoes, although I wouldn't say our success rate is much over 50%. But from talking to locals, they don't have any better success, which makes us feel not quite so clueless.
On the road up behind our house, we can walk through the old coffee plantation, and there is an avocado tree, a banana tree, and a papaya tree. All of them have fruit on them now, none of it quite ready. The avocadoes are the size of corn kernels.

What's wrong with the avacados you're buying?
Overripe or underripe - usually overripe. But it's so hard to tell from the outside!
