Antigua is world-renowned for its religious processions during Semana Santa, which draw throngs of tourists. Locals carry floats which depict scenes from the Biblical account of Christ's last days. As we understand, the people carrying the float have all paid for the privilege. The smoke in the photo is from the incense-burners who precede the float.

Semana Santa is also a pick-pocket haven that thieves travel from all over central america for! Seriously. And yes, they do pay to carry the floats, it's part of their penance. Did you get to see them making the flower carpets? They're incredible!
I wonder what the locals think as they are carrying this burden in an effort to be released from whatever is bothering them while tourists snap their photos and gawk. No offense to what you have done; it was good for me to see and to remember what freedom I have in Christ. But what hurt this picture represents, and what a young girl in front... how are you?
