In the market today...

There are many little fruit stands that serve pre-cut, ready to eat fruit in little plastic baggies. This is how they prepare an orange, then they cut it in half and sprinkle a little pepper mixture on top. We haven't tried it yet, because we don't buy uncooked food items from street vendors. Our friend Abel said he would show us a vendor who he knows is clean and washes his hands. You wouldn't believe the disgusting stories we hear about vendors not washing their hands!

This shot is particularly for Grace -- we thought of you because this is your apple peeler at work on the orange!

About those street vendors! I've heard that the ones that sell fried chicken at the bus stops, if they don't sell their chicken by the end of the day they just re-fry it the next day and try again. And we were told to never buy the fruit in bags either...

oh but that fruit looks so good! Mexicans prepare mangoes the same way in California. They drive around on bicycles on our street ringing their bell, and when you come out they will cut up the mango on the spot, sprinkle it with salt/pepper mixture put in a bag, and for $2, you have a fresh snack. I bet they are much better there... I might be tempted to buy.
